The Meadows School was Summerlin's first constructed facility of any kind, opening in 1988 on 40 acres donated by the Howard Hughes Corporation, several years before the community's first residents moved in. Summerlin's first public school, William R. Lummis Elementary, followed in 1993 and was named for Howard Hughes' cousin and the executor of his estate. The Howard Hughes Corporation donated $250,000 to Clark County School District at the time to help fund a new school building prototype that CCSD went on to use across the district.

According to Danielle Bisterfeldt, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Consumer Experience for Summerlin, in the developer's own published statement, planning for both public and private schools was part of the master plan from its earliest stages, with land specifically set aside for both. Summerlin's developer has published a total figure of 26 schools operating within the community; its own current schools directory names 14 schools operated by CCSD, 2 public charter schools, and 9 private schools, which totals 25, one fewer than the published figure of 26.

Those three categories work differently for a buyer or renter to understand. CCSD's public elementary, middle, and high schools are assigned by a home's exact address under the district's zoning system. Nevada's public charter schools are open to any eligible student through a lottery, regardless of address. Private schools set their own independent admissions and tuition, separate from both CCSD zoning and the charter lottery.

All of the following are operated by the Clark County School District. Each is documented by Summerlin's developer as located within a specific Summerlin neighborhood, though which exact school a given address is zoned for must be confirmed directly with CCSD rather than assumed from this list.

• William R. Lummis Elementary School: Summerlin's first public school, located in The Hills neighborhood, opened 1993.Named for Howard Hughes' cousin and the executor of his estate.
• Richard H. Bryan Elementary School: The Pueblo neighborhood, opened 1996.
• John W. Bonner Elementary School: The Crossing neighborhood, opened 1997.
• D'Vorre and Hal Ober Elementary School: The Willows neighborhood, opened 2000.
• E.W. Staton Elementary School: The Arbors neighborhood, opened 2000.
• John and Judy Goolsby Elementary School: Ridgebrook neighborhood, opened 2004.

Summerlin's developer documents three CCSD middle schools and two CCSD high schools within the community. Each is zoned by a home's exact address rather than by neighborhood name, the same as the elementary schools listed above.

• Ernest A. Becker, Sr. Middle School: The Hills neighborhood, opened 1993.
• Sig Rogich Middle School: The Arbors neighborhood, opened 2000.
• Wilbur and Theresa Faiss Middle School: The Cliffs neighborhood, opened 2007.
• Palo Verde High School: The Arbors neighborhood, opened 1997. Shares a campus with a College of Southern Nevada facility and added International Baccalaureate World School programming in 2015.
• West Career and Technical Academy: Summerlin Centre West, opened 2010. A CCSD magnet school with a curriculum centered on medical and environmental sciences.

Nevada's public charter schools are tuition-free and sponsored by the Nevada State Public Charter School Authority, not by CCSD directly. Neither of the two documented within Summerlin is zoned by address; both accept students through an open lottery available to eligible Nevada students regardless of where they live.

• Doral Academy Red Rock: Located in The Stonebridge neighborhood, opened 2016. Grades K through 12, per Summerlin's current schools directory.
• Discovery Charter School: The Hills neighborhood, opened 2011. Grades K through 8, using a project-based Total Learning model that involves teachers, students, and families together.

Summerlin's own current schools directory names 9 private schools within the community. The Adelson Educational Campus is counted once in this list despite consisting of three separate schools, the Milton I. Schwartz Hebrew Academy, The Adelson Middle School, and The Adelson Upper School, all sharing one campus. Grade ranges, admissions requirements, and tuition are set independently by each school and change from year to year, so current figures should be confirmed directly with the school rather than assumed from this list.

• The Meadows School: The Pueblo neighborhood, 40 acres, grades K through 12, opened 1988 as Summerlin's first educational facility.Nevada's first non-profit, non-sectarian college preparatory school.
• The Adelson Educational Campus: The Hills neighborhood, 14 acres. Consists of three schools: the Milton I. • Bishop Gorman High School: The Mesa neighborhood, 52 acres, grades 9 through 12, opened 2007 (the school was founded in 1954).A Catholic, coeducational college preparatory school.
• The Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain: The Gardens neighborhood, 33 acres, early childhood through grade 8, opened 2000.Documented as non-sectarian and coeducational.
• The Merryhill School: The Trails neighborhood, 5 acres, grades K through 5, opened 1997. Part of the Nobel Learning Community network.
• St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School: The Pueblo neighborhood, grades K through 8, opened 2000. Operated by the Diocese of Las Vegas.
• The Shenker Academy: The Hills South neighborhood, non-denominational preschool and kindergarten, opened 1997.Kindergarten program licensed by CCSD.

Two of Summerlin's larger private schools also publish current admissions and tuition information directly, which is worth reviewing before relying on any third-party estimate. Beyond K through 12 education, Summerlin's developer documents several higher-education and continuing-education facilities within the community. These serve a different purpose than the K-12 schools above and are not tied to any residential zoning process.

• College of Southern Nevada Learning Center: The Arbors neighborhood, adjacent to Palo Verde High School, opened 1999. Home to the Bob and Sandy Miller High Tech Center at Summerlin.
• University of Phoenix: The Gardens neighborhood. Offers degree programs for working adults across several fields.
• Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies: The Hills South neighborhood, opened 1998. A postgraduate dental education institute.
• Roseman University of Health Sciences: Expansion campus, opened 2013. Operated under Roseman University of Health Sciences, headquartered in Henderson.

Every CCSD public school on this list is assigned by a home's exact street address, not by which Summerlin neighborhood the address falls in. Two homes a short walk apart can be zoned to different elementary schools, and boundaries are periodically redrawn as CCSD tracks enrollment trends and new residential growth, so a school assignment that was accurate a few years ago is not guaranteed to still be current today.

Anyone weighing a specific home based on which school it's zoned for should confirm that directly through CCSD's own Zoning Search tool rather than relying on this guide, a listing description, or a general assumption about the surrounding neighborhood. CCSD's official zoning page is available at ccsd.net/zoning, and CCSD's Demographics, Zoning and GIS Department can also be reached directly for addresses the online tool cannot resolve.

This same caution applies to newer, still-developing neighborhoods in Summerlin West. Some of the community's newest neighborhoods do not yet have a school built directly within them, and any future school assignment for those addresses should be confirmed with CCSD directly rather than assumed based on this guide's current list.
