School zoning in North Las Vegas: how Clark County School District assigns schools by home address

North Las Vegas Real Estate

CCSD School Zoning: How to Find Your Zoned School by Address

CCSD assigns your child's school by your exact home address, and the district's online zoning search is where you look it up. ZIP code and neighborhood name alone should not be used to work it out, since two homes in the same ZIP code can be zoned for different schools. Below is how to check an address, what to do when the tool is unclear, and how Open Enrollment works if a family wants a different school. For context on the city itself, see my North Las Vegas overview.

Zoning Is Based on Address, Not Zip Code

Clark County School District assigns students to a school based on the home address, which falls within a designated attendance zone. ZIP code alone should not be used to determine a property's assigned school, because two homes in the same ZIP code can be zoned for different schools.

CCSD explains how this works on its zoning overview page. It trips up a lot of buyers moving in from other areas, where zip code or neighborhood name works as a rough stand-in for school assignment. Here that shortcut should not be relied on, so confirm zoning for the specific property with CCSD instead of guessing from the surrounding area or a nearby landmark.

How to Check a Specific Address

CCSD's Zoning Search Tool

Checking takes a few minutes, and all you need is the full street address of the property. Have the exact address in front of you before you start.

CCSD provides an online zoning search tool where you enter an address to see the zoned school. If the property is newly built, confirm the exact address with CCSD instead of assuming its zone from nearby homes.

Contacting CCSD Directly

If the online tool doesn't return a clear answer, or you need confirmation for a specific transaction, CCSD's Demographics and Zoning department can help you identify the zoned school for a given address by phone. Have the exact address ready when you call so the department can look it up.

Why Independent Verification Matters

Real Estate Listings Aren't the Authoritative Source

School information on a listing or a third-party website may not reflect a property's current zoning assignment, so treat it as a starting point and confirm with CCSD. CCSD's GIS attendance-zone data states that attendance boundaries are reviewed annually and are subject to change, with approved changes implemented at the beginning of the school year, so a boundary is not permanent.

Confirm Directly, Especially Near a Boundary Line

This matters most for a home you are seriously considering. Check CCSD's own tool or call the district instead of relying on a listing description or a general area assumption, since a nearby property can be zoned differently.

My Complete Guide to Buying a Home in Nevada covers the rest of the purchase process beyond zoning. It follows the steps from offer to closing, so you can see where a zoning check fits.

Open Enrollment and COSA

Families who want their child to attend a school other than their zoned school may apply for schools with available space through CCSD's Open Enrollment process. CCSD identifies the process as Change of School Assignment (COSA) and states that it is officially called Open Enrollment beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, so you may see either term depending on the source.

CCSD's Open Enrollment page currently states that applications for the 2027-2028 school year open Monday, October 5, 2026. That is a date-specific CCSD announcement, and application dates can change in future years, so check the page for the current schedule before you plan around it.

How Open Enrollment Works

CCSD states that not all schools have open seats and that the list of participating Open Enrollment schools is determined by available capacity, so the list can change. Families may apply to schools on that list. According to CCSD, if a school receives more applications than it has available seats, a lottery determines which students are offered placement.

Not Every School Is Available

Only schools with available space are on the Open Enrollment list. CCSD describes Open Enrollment schools as different from Magnet schools, which have their own application process, so check CCSD's current eligibility information to see which schools are included. CCSD's policy on school assignment changes is available as District Policy and Regulation 5112.

What This Means When Buying in North Las Vegas

Confirm Zoning Before, Not After, an Offer

Since zoning is tied to the address, confirm the zoned school for the exact property before you submit an offer, not after closing. That helps avoid an unwelcome surprise, and it applies to resale homes and new construction alike.

New Construction Needs the Same Check

Buyers considering a newly built home shouldn't assume the zone from nearby homes just because the community is new. Confirm the exact property address directly with CCSD before you rely on it.

My New Construction Homes in North Las Vegas post covers current builder communities. It is a good starting point for the questions worth asking a builder before you commit.

Sellers: Know Your Own Zoning Too

Sellers benefit from knowing their property's zoned school as well, since buyers with school-age children may ask about it early in the process. Having a confirmed answer ready, instead of sending buyers off to research it themselves, helps keep a showing or conversation moving.

My Seller's Guide covers other preparation steps worth handling before a home goes on the market. Zoning is one item on a longer checklist.

Plan the Move and the School Year Together

Coordinating a home search with school zoning research adds a step to an already busy relocation. Confirming both early, especially before a school year begins, generally makes the move smoother, since enrollment timelines and moving logistics don't always line up on their own.

Buyers relocating from out of state may also find my Las Vegas Valley Relocation Checklist useful for the broader moving timeline. It shows where school research fits alongside the rest of the move.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out which school my home is zoned for?

Use CCSD's online zoning search and enter the full street address of the property. If the tool does not return a clear answer, or you need confirmation for a specific transaction, contact CCSD's Demographics and Zoning department directly.

How does CCSD determine which school my child attends?

Clark County School District assigns students to a school based on their home address, which falls within a designated attendance zone. ZIP code alone should not be used to determine a property's assigned school, since two homes in the same ZIP code can be zoned for different schools.

Can zip code alone tell me which school a home is zoned for?

No. Because school assignment is based on the specific address, ZIP code alone should not be used to determine a property's assigned school. CCSD's zoning search is one reliable way to check an exact address, and CCSD's Demographics and Zoning department can confirm it directly.

Can my child attend a school outside our zone?

Possibly. Families may apply through CCSD's Open Enrollment process for schools with available space. Not every school is available, the list of participating schools is determined by available capacity, and it can change, so check CCSD's Open Enrollment information for current details.

What is Open Enrollment, and what is COSA?

CCSD identifies the process as Change of School Assignment (COSA) and states that it is officially called Open Enrollment beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, so you may see either term. Families may apply for schools with available space through the process.

Are all CCSD schools available through Open Enrollment?

No. Only schools with available space are included, and that list can change. CCSD describes Open Enrollment schools as different from Magnet schools, which have their own application process, so check CCSD's current eligibility information to see which schools are included.
